The sun was setting hence the beautiful evening-light. The dark background made a nice contrast to Vendela's white skin.
It was her idea to stand like that.
The use of the large-format camera makes it much easier to get these calm photographs.

This image was tough to do for the girls. It wasn't easy to balance and at the same time to look relaxed out.
They tried to form a heart which symbolize their friendship.

While Joo and I were heading back to the car after finishing a session, Joo discovered this fallen pine.
I set up the camera and we took two images and this is one of them.

Often you don't have to push your model into strange positions.
Just by simply crossing her legs, Vendela created a smooth line and that's all that needed to create this image.

This image was hard for William.

First his mother hold him so I could set the focus. Then she had to ran away and William had to be totally still. His poor arms probably grew an inch after this...

I never retake the image nor use the same pose in the same setting. So this image may have ended up blurred, but I still wouldn't have taken an extra image just to be sure to nail this shot.
If the image was bad, we wouldn't have deserved it. By thinking so, I can enjoy the images much more.

In this image I just told Vendela to stretch her arms. While she was doing so, I noticed this beautiful stretch and told her to pause.

She had to stand like this for almost a minute until the waves washed over her feet, producing the marvelous pattern around her.

I can assure you that she was a bit sore in her arms after this shot...

It was evening and I and the children went out to the beach to take some photographs.
I took some photos of them and then they ran out to take a late swim in the Atlantic water.
I took this image before they went further out.

Moa is the youngest child I have ever photographed with my large-format camera. In this picture she is only three years old.

Normally it takes around ten to twenty seconds until I have focused fully and can take the image. During this time, the child may not move at all.

When I photographed Moa, she had hard time standing still for so long time (which is hard for any three-year-old kid).

It happend a few times that when I was just about to press the shutter, Moa ran away to show her mother something.

I'm amazed that I could get any image with superb focus on Moa, but we managed and here is the result of one shot.

This image is taken next to a large window. It was a hard to fit the LF-camera, but it worked.

The depth of field is really short, but William managed to stay absolutely still.

It's a truly wonderful place, where one easily can have a very long beach all by oneself.

It isn't hard to make wonderful images with such a lovely girl as Joo.

This image is taken at the third largest lake in Sweden and eventhough the scenery looks wonderful it is probably not more than 16 degrees in the water.

As every parent with more than one kid, you probably know that they will argue a lot.

Whenever they are friends though, I just love how much friends they can be.
Sometimes I just wonder
if they argue so much just so one can appreciate the friendship between them more.

First we didn't planned to take a photo like this, but when we saw the birds behind Ellen we tried it.
Ellen threw some bits of a sandwich behind her just the second before the shot was taken.

This shows how lonely it can be on this wonderful beach.

The clock is around seven in the evening and I don't understand why people leave that early. It's the eventing-light that is so wonderful. But it may be us photographers that sees that...

This image is taken minutes after another one.

I just saw that Ellen stood like this (she is doing her hair) and said to her that she shouldn't move.
I tried to focus as fast as I could and this is the result.

When we took this image it was as if the rest of the world vanished. It was just Ellen and I who existed.

Vendela just stood like this stretching when I saw her. I told her to stay put while I set up the camera.

This beach normally has lots of people, but since this image was taken when the sun was setting I did not only get beautiful lights, but at the same time didn't had any people in the background.

Lots of my photos is taken like this. Often it's more beautiful to not pose children, but just observe them and act immediatly.

Eventhough Ellen is 10 years in this picture she looks so tiny and vulnerable.

During this windy day we went to the beach for a barbeque.

As all children, they want to light the barbeque. This time Ellen got to do it, but William holds a match in case Ellen fails.

Unfortunatly for all of us the barbeque wasn't heated evenly, but was only warm on a small spot on the side.

But we managed to get the food eatable, but it took an hour or so.

This photo was taken on the way home from the beach.

We had just driven some 20 meters when I saw the evening light hit the trees.

William stood in the high grass and I told him that he could stand how he felt like.

As always not posing children too much makes a better picture. The last light of a warm summer-day always enhance the picture as well.

This tree is really cool, because it's very low and one can easily climb it.

It isn't visible here, but around me and William were thousands of mosquitos.

Thank God he isn't only brave but can stand still for the several minutes it takes to focus the LF-camera.

I said that I was about to refocus the image and they could stand there talking to each other.

Ellen had just bought these shoes for her exame and wanted to have a photo of them. Naturally I just can't take a photo of a pair of shoes...

The bridge is located some hundred meters from our home and I have never thought of taking the picture there. Sometimes one think that one has to go far away to take beautiful shots, but it can be as pretty nearby.

It doesn't show in this image, but just seconds after it was taken, Ellen said that she had lots of bugs and creaps cralling all over her. But thank God she is a brave girl.

One more photograph on a very beautiful and calm girl

I usually don't do portraits indoors because I feel that the background is as important as the subject.

However in this portrait the calm wall lit by a window is enough.

This was the first LF portrait of Vendela.

I usually explain how it works and that the sitter has to be as still as possible.

It's fun to see how a child full of life can be as still as Vendela. Eventhough the shutter speed was 1/8, Vendela could stand like this for minutes.

It was really cold and the shot is taken in the shadow. But Ellen managed to stay still infront of the LF

This shot was taken by an own-build 4x5" camera in teak. I used it for a couple of months until I bought a Sinar F2 4x5".

Eventhough it's really fun to build an LF camera, it's much easier and sturdier to use a real camera.
